Blog #36: Matte-Dewy Skin: Banila Co. Fall In Seoul Seoulish Cushion (Review)

Beauties, how does matte-dewy skin sound to you? Is this even possible???

This is the question that I want to find the answer to by trying Banila Co.'s newest cushion, Fall In Seoul Seoulish Cushion. This is the cushion foundation that's part of Banila Co's new limited edition line, Fall In Seoul Seoulish.

The cushion comes in two, one ready for use and a refill.

Unlike other cushions, the sponge on this one's covered and instead, there are holes where the foundation will come out once squeezed.

This is a first for me. I've own a lot of cushions wherein the blue applicator has direct contact with the sponge.

The cushion has a liquid foundation texture rather than a BB Cream. This is actually the darkest shade out of the three variants, BE20.

Here's how it looks when applied at the back of the hand.

As you can see, the foundation is more on the matte side compared to other cushions that are very dewy/moist. Here's another look with flash.

Their darkest shade is still a bit fair for "morena" (dark-skinned) women like me. I suggest dusting off a darker powder to neutralize the color.

But this is the back of the hand. Let's see how it will look then when applied on the face.

Here's my skin without the Banila Co. Fall In Seoul Seoulish cushion. (Oh god those pores and dark spot. -_-)

And here's how my skin looked after applying the cushion.

Holy shit! Is that really my skin???

Oh yeah. That's definitely my face. haha

So what's the verdict?

  • Packaging -  awesome! Carrying the signature Fall In Seoul Seoulish design and having a cover with holes is an ingenious innovation to an otherwise messy cushion application. I love that I can control the amount of foundation I want to apply and the clean up is very easy.

  • Shade - a bit lighter than my skin tone. Must use lightly or else I'll end up looking like a vampire. haha

  • Texture - not too heavy, not too light. I say it's alright. I didn't feel anything tight feeling or itch when applied.

  • Coverage - full coverage! Although it wasn't able to cover much of my pores, I love how it easily corrected my skin tone, hiding the dark spots of my skin.

  • Effect - a skin that's matte when applied and gradually becoming dewy. This is perfect for me since I have oily skin. No need for me to dust on powder or compact.

OVER-ALL VERDICT: 4.6/5

It's definitely a leap above the other cushions because...

  • the foundation's contained inside a secured container without direct contact with the applicator

  • there are holes which release the foundation. You can control the amount that goes on your applicator.

  • clean up's a breeze! You can just wipe the remaining foundation with your sponge and there'll be no more leak.

  • it's matte that becomes dewy which is perfect for my skin type

Only con is that even the darkest shade is still at least one or two shades lighter than my skin tone which is a bit of a let down for me. :( I do recommend this to those with light to medium skin tone. The formulation is fantastic and doesn't need much of touch ups!

You can grab this beauty at the first pop up store of Banila Co. Philippines at the Glorietta 4 beside Sakura and Jipan. Drop by soon to see their other amazing products!

Blog #35: Glowing Skin - Banila Co Prime Primer Blur (Review)

I have a problem with big, visible pores and I think there are a lot out there who share the same issues with me. If only we could erase those icky holes from our faces, we would, right?

But what if we can?

Its metallic box gives us a feel of how the effect will be.

Introducing Banila Co.'s solution to our poreblem: the Prime Primer Blur which...

... creates a soft-focus 'BLUR' effect to minimize the look of imperfections to for a smooth, flawless canvas while the red-blue-green tricolor universal pearl base adds soft highlights to skin.

Whew! Whatta long description there, Banila Co. To make it more specific, beauties, this primer promises to deliver:

  • a blurring effect to lessen imperfections
  • boosting effect to show off a radiant skin
  • a shiny skin which will give off a youthful glow

Pretty big words to fulfill, huh? So how did it live off to its claim to fame? I tried and I'll be sharing with you the result in just a few.

Before anything else, let me give you a quick peek on the primer itself.

Like its box, the bottle has a pink to silver gradation.

When I was waiting for the opening of Banila Co. Philippines, this bottle caught my eye. And  why not? It has a metallic bottle which gradates from a gorgeous pink to a stunning silver. So luxurious!

The Banila Co. Prime Primer Blur is a beautiful pearl base.

The base itself is luxurious as well with its off-white, almost pinkish pearl form.

A few squeeze goes a long way

Tip: a few squeeze goes a long way. This is a lesson I learned the first time I used this primer. I squeezed three drops of it thinking that a small, pea-sized amount isn't enough but surprise, surprise! Those three drops are actually quite a lot when spread out evenly on the skin.

Left side: without Banila Co. Prime Primer Blur / Right side: with Banila Co. Prime Primer Blur

Left hand: with Banila Co. Prime Primer Blur / Right hand: without Banila Co. Prime Primer

How did it fare then on my skin? Here's a video from MNET's "Get It Beauty" which featured Banila Co.'s Prime Primer Blur taken from Banila Co. Philippines' official FB and demos I did to show you the effect of this primer. Please excuse the bare face (no make-up whatsoever, just toner.) since I want to show you its realest effect on my most naked form.

I've also got a few snapshots of my skin BEFORE and AFTER:

This part of my face didn't have Banila Co. Prime Primer Blur yet.

Here you can see my skin that doesn't have Banila Co. Prime Primer Blur yet. I have HUGE pores that are noticeable without any make-up.

Now let's see how my skin with Banila Co. Prime Primer Blur looks:

With Banila Co. Prime Primer Blur

As you can see from my smize, I'm quite happy with the result! Here's a quick run down:

COVERAGE: not too heavy, bordering on sheen - I say it works best paired with a cushion foundation. I tried wearing it underneath my Seoulish Collection Cushion and the effect was a soft, dewy-matte finish.

SCENT: it has a clean, almost minty smell. Not the usual strong make-up / skin care scent I'm used to.

TEXTURE: it has a creamy texture that almost feels as light as a mousse.

FEEL: it goes smooth and light on the skin, you'll forget you're wearing it! It's probably the best thing about it - it doesn't remind you from time to time that you're wearing make-up unlike other primers I tried. I also love how smooth my skin felt after cleansing.

CLAIM TO FAME: now here's the real test, did it realize all its above claim?

  • a blurring effect to lessen imperfections - the appearance of my pores were definitely lessened although they weren't covered fully. I guess it's alright since the product never promised to cover the pores, just lessen them for a more natural effect.

  • boosting effect to show off a radiant skin - YES! I love how it brightened my skin in a natural way with its fine pearls that highlighted my skin quite well.

  • a shiny skin which will give off a youthful glow - AMEN! This primer managed to give me a soft glow without the greasiness of a normal highlighter. I love how it blended with my natural skin tone and didn't give me a white face but instead, corrected my skin tone.

OVER-ALL SCORE: 4.9! I didn't give a perfect score since I wished it covered more of my pores but I'm quite happy with the result in general. :)

I highly-recommend this primer. If your skin has lesser pores than mine, you can wear this alone (without foundation) for a 'no make-up' natural look. If you have big pores and uneven skin tone like mine, I suggest wearing this underneath a BB Cream or cushion to enhance and correct the state of your skin. Highly-recommended also to those with oily skin since it can control sebum and give a soft matte-dewy finish.

If you're interested in availing this miraculous primer, you can head over to their first ever pop up store in Glorietta 4 Makati beside Jipan and Sakura. You can also get more deets and latest news via their official social media accounts, Banila Co. Philippines FB, @banilacoph IG and Banila Co.'s official website.

Happy hauling!

Blog #34: PH Loves Banila Co (Store Launch)

When you see Song Ji Hyo's image up on a pink canvas, you know Banila Co has officially arrived!

Korean actress and host, Song Ji Hyo, popularly known from "Running Man

And when you see stylishly-clad Koreans working hard to polish a Korean beauty brand's pop up store, you know you'll be in for an amazing beauty experience.

Not to take anything away from us, Filipinos but South Koreans are well-known to be big fanatics of beauty and they take the extra mile when it comes to beautifying themselves, hence, the rise of K-beauty all over the world.

Banila Co's on their 10th year and still going strong

I found out about the arrival of the brand from their IG, @banilacoph and had no second thoughts of attending their launch!

The image posted on Banila Co PH's official IG: @banilacoph

Even if it meant lining up for more than an hour and struggling with one hand selfies. Haha

Beauties lined up to get the first glimpse of Banila Co's premium products

I wasn't bored that much though since Heena, a very stylish young woman from Banila Co Korea's team, came by for a short chit chat with me. She shared how the hellish traffic in Metro Manila caught her completely off guard and was the reason that the store opened later than expected (they were supposed to open by 12 noon but had to move to 1:30 PM). She also complimented my make-up and said that their Korean MUA, Kim Kang Pil, noticed how "korean" my make-up was. She's seriously pretty! A lot of customers got starstruck with her and thought she was Song Ji Hyo!

Heena and I took selfies on our phones to pass time while waiting

After more than an hour of waiting, the store finally opened! And guess who's first on the line??? Myself of course! Yes, obviously I wasn't that excited to get first dibs on Banila Co's make-up but as they say, the early bird gets the early worm because I got myself a GC worth 1,000 to shop on!

It's better to be early than late

Beauties from all ages who were united in lining up, were divided into different sections of the store once it opened.

Entering the store was dizzying. I was like a kid let loose inside a candy store.

The skin care line has some pretty packaging and witty names like Claypatra.

These products will make you want to do the whole skin care routine from toner to essences

They also have tons of masks that cater to a wide range of skin needs like moisture, radiance, hydration, anti-aging and more.

There are a lot to choose from! You can make this a weekly habit.

Probably their most popular line, the Clean It Zero has its own shelves which display its various types of cleansers. I've been hearing and seeing a lot of raves about Clean It Zero, how it effectively cleanses the skin without drying it so I'll definitely give it a try once my Laneige Pore Cleansing Oil is done.

And of course, how can I forget their lip line? I'm so lippie-obsessed that it's the first thing that caught my eyes while I was surveying the store.

A whole line of lippies and palettes are a girl's dream

They share a whole shelf with Banila Co's famous bases.

From moisturizing, to covering and blurring, Banila Co has the finest line of make-up bases

Getting to see these amazing products up close is incredible but what's more amazing is getting first dibs on them!

L to R: Fall In Seoul Seoulish Cushion Foundation, Fall In Seoul Eye Shadow Palette, Fall In Seoul The Kisses Lip Lacquer Tinted Fit and Prime Primer Blur

Thanks to Banila Co Philippines, I was able to have my hands on their limited edition Seoulish Collection that consists of:
  1. Cushion Foundation BE20
  2. Eye Shadow Palette in Garosu Feminine
  3. The Kissest Lip Lacquer Tinted Fit in two shades: Garosu Magenta and Hongdae Pink

This is their special Fall collection that's both lovely and chic. I love that they name the products after famous areas in Seoul. And I must say the packaging is sooo chic and eye-catching! This line is perfect for my Fall Beauty review which will be coming up in a few.

I also got the amazing blurring base with the 1000 GC I received and I have no regrets. I've been meaning to buy a Face Blur product but for some reasons, I never did until yesterday.

To cap off the event, Banila Co Korea's MUA, Kim Kang Pil did a make-up demo on a Filipina model. Watching him work his magic was so hypnotizing. His hands work like a machine!

Over-all, the launch was a success. There was a decent turn out, considering that Banila Co's not as famous here in the Philippines as its competitors. Got to give it to both Banila Co Korea and PH for their hard work marketing the launch via their social media platforms.

So if you happen to pass by Glorietta or near the area, don't forget to drop by Banila Co's pop up store at the Glorietta 4 beside Sakura and Jipan. Like and follow their social media accounts to know more about their upcoming events and product launches at Banila Co. Philippines and @banilacoph.
