On June 22nd, 2NE1‘s Park Bom attended a PR product launch event for the makeup brand ‘Maybelline New York‘ in Tokyo. At the event, Maybelline announced that 2NE1′s new song (title not yet announced and will be released on August 29th) is going to be used as the theme song for their upcoming CM promoting their ‘Volume Express Magnum Cat Eyes Waterproof Mascara’. Bom was wearing a sexy dress that accentuated her gorgeous body line and beautiful legs for the event and commented on the tie-up, “It’s an honor. The song expresses the feelings of a woman and perfectly fits with the image of Maybelline. I still can’t sing it for you yet, but please look forward to it.” The new CM is scheduled to start broadcasting nationwide in August. |
It seems Se7en has another special performance planned for his fans. It has just been reported that he will be collaborating with 2NE1‘s power vocalist, Park Bom, for his upcoming ’Inkigayo‘ performance! If you remember, the singer collaborated with J.Y. Park to put on a spectacular performance on the February 19th episode of ‘Inkigayo’, receiving much positive feedback from the audience. To follow up, he’ll be teaming up with fellow labelmate of the same age, Park Bom. Fans are already anticipating the collaboration to see how Se7en’s melodic voice will meld with Park Bom[‘s powerful vocals. Reportedly, this had been in the making since the collaboration with J.Y. Park. While discussing Se7en’s stage, J.Y. Park and Yang Hyun Suk had thought of the idea as they recalled an occasion in which Se7en and Park Bom discussed doing a duet. YG Entertainment stated, “Se7en’s ‘When I Can’t Sing‘ is a song that Park Bom liked instantly upon hearing it for the first time… Although she’s currently busy with preparations for 2NE1′s Japanese album and music video that will be released in March, she has been practicing whenever she could to prepare for this performance.” |
2NE1‘s Park Bom wowed fans with her long legs earlier this week, and they made their return in this three-shot photo collection from the beach. On February 6th, Park Bom posted on her me2day, “My stupid parade. Walking like a model hahaha. Then, all of sudden, I turn around and pose. It’s exciting, so I stop. And then, I suddenly do a dancing pose! Watch me have a lot of fun.” The vocalist is seen strutting her stuff down the beach, as she pretends that the stretch of sand is really a catwalk. Fans chuckled over Park Bom’s exaggerated movements, from her haughty head-tilt to her cheerleader pose. They commented, “It seems like you’re having a lot of fun in the Philippines” and “This is overflowing with charisma. The people behind you probably couldn’t look away!” |
YG Entertainment has revealed that 2NE1‘s Park Bom is suffering from a severe flu, and that it may affect her performance at the ’2011 MAMA’, scheduled to be held on November 29th in Singapore. “Up until departing for Singapore today, Park Bom had been suffering from a flu so severe that she was unable to speak at all for days,” said YG officials. They continued, “Since it’s a year-end awards ceremony, and because 2NE1 has many fans who have loved and supported them this year, Park Bom has decided that she will on stand on stage. Due to her throat condition, however, we’re afraid that she may not be able to sing live at the event. Up until now, Park Bom has only performed live on stage; just to be safe, however, we took both the MR and AR versions of the song.” If Bom’s throat doesn’t clear up before their official performance at the MAMA, 2NE1 will have no choice but to use the AR version of the song on stage, which will contain both the song’s melody and Bom’s studio-recorded vocals. “We hope Park Bom’s flu gets better so that she can return to singing live for her fans,” the officials concluded. In related news, 2NE1 has been nominated for the “Best Female Group” and “Best Performance” categories at this year’s MAMA. |
2NE1‘s lead vocalist Park Bom first relished in the spotlight as a solo artist back in 2009 when she debuted her first hit single, “You & I“. Produced by YG Entertainment‘s in-house beat maker, Teddy, who has been responsible for knocking every 2NE1 song out of the park since their debut, managed to give Bom just the right amount of love with “You & I”; the production of the song was a great complement to Bom’s voice and the overall style was spot on. - Before 2NE1 though, Park Bom had already served her round of features on various YG songs (We Belong Together, Forever With You), so her agency has had ample time to get acclimated with what works and what doesn’t with this singer, as well as Park Bom herself with her own vocal prowess. Park Bom has developed a very distinguished singing voice in K-pop. While it’s not the strongest, the timbre of her voice is instantly recognizable and has a certain likeability to it, especially when she focuses it in the right vocal range. It’s a rare occasion to hear Bom for more than 10 seconds at a time in any given 2NE1 song – she’s regularly stuck belting out the choruses – so it’s interesting to see how she handles full songs on her own. For me, it’s always a mixed moment of anxiety and wonder to hear if she can hit all the lows and highs, especially with as piercing of a voice as her’s. Which brings us to her latest solo single, “Don’t Cry.” — Between the releases of 2NE1′s “1st Mini Album” (2009) and “To Anyone” (2010), there’s been a noticeable change in the way YG has designated the use of Park Bom’s singing. She went from ad-libbing all over the place to not ad-libbing at all, and while it made sense with 2NE1′s musical approach of 2010 – rather static and overly digitized – a piece of me wanted to hear a bit more fluidity in the vocals, especially with Bom because her voice is not fit to be over processed. If I needed evidence to prove that point, “Don’t Cry” is a great example of what I’m getting at. Teddy knows that if Bom hits all the right notes (which she usually does, given that she will forever remain in the same old octave she resides in), all he needs to do is bust out a great song and there’s a hit in the making. No need for auto-tune, no need to over process. As if on cue, Park Bom works it out to a T in “Don’t Cry”. This song isn’t as R&B-by-the-books as “You & I” was, as “Don’t Cry” is less aggressive and very YG-pop. What Bom does here is take away some of the loudness in her singing and reaches toward her lower range for once. Bom doesn’t really have a low register, but she gave it a go in “Don’t Cry” and she pretty much pulled it off. The transitional pre-chorus is a little iffy for me (not a fan of the multiplying snares), but all in all, this song is a winner. I’m curious, though, if Park Bom could take on a swooping ballad a la Gummy. |
Previously, we reported that Park Bom will be releasing a new solo track titled “Don’t Cry” on April 21st. YG has delighted their Blackjacks by revealed the first teaser through their YG-life blog! The track is produced by Teddy and it will feature a piano and house beat. The music video is slated for release on April 21 as well, and features the appearance of model and rookie actor Kim Young Kwang. |
With their YouTube “World Premiere” happening in less than 24 hours, fans are eagerly waiting to get a taste of GD&TOP‘s music. To further add to the hype, it has been revealed that 2NE1‘s Park Bom will be helping GD&TOP for their highly anticipated upcoming album release on December 24th. On December 13th, a YG Entertainment representative revealed, “Park Bom has been featured on a track titled ‘OH YEAH‘ from the soon-to-be-released GD&TOP album… Park Bom will also join GD&TOP for their broadcast performances.” That means Park Bom will be singing with GD&TOP for their December 19th debut stage on SBS‘s ‘Inkigayo’ with a performance of ‘OH YEAH,’ and she plans to continue to perform with them each time they perform that song. In October, we reported on a short clip of Park Bom in the studio with G-Dragon. At that time, we speculated that the song was possibly for Big Bang‘s comeback album, but now from the looks of it, it may have been for GD&TOP’s album! |
After much anticipation, 2NE1′s Park Bom has released her first solo digital single, You and I!
Park Bom’s dream has finally been realized as she has been dreaming to debut as a solo singer 6 years ago.
You and I is produced by none other than Teddy, who in the past has produced hit songs Lollipop, Fire,I Don’t Care, and Kiss.
This R&B/Hip-Hop track will showcase Bom’s strong vocals and complimented with a high production MV, that was filmed throughout many locations in Seoul.
